Meet Your Madison Orthodontist
Dr. Jared Moffett is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. It was at Mississippi State University that Dr. Moffett met his wife, Leslie, and the two were married in 2011 following graduation.
In 2012 they moved to Jackson, MS for Dr. Moffett to attend dental school at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry. While in dental school, Dr. Moffett served as class president of his dental class for four years and received numerous achievements including the J. Julius Ratliff Orthodontic Award, Pierre Fauchard Leadership Award, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists' Award. More importantly, it was during his first year of dental school that Dr. Moffett met Dr. Walley (who was an orthodontic faculty member at the dental school), and realized that he wanted to become an orthodontist.
In 2015, Dr. Moffett was accepted as one of four residents to the Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN. Dr. Moffett spent 3 additional years training at UT, and he graduated with both his orthodontic certificate and Master of Dental Science Degree. Immediately following graduation, Dr. Moffett joined Dr. Walley and his team.
Dr. Walley has been setting the highest standards of excellence in orthodontics for over 40 years. He attended Co-Lin Community College, followed by Mississippi College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. It was at Mississippi College he met his wife Rebecca. They have 2 sons, Kenny and Richard, and a grandson named Parker.
Dr. Walley attended dental school at the University of Tennessee, and following graduation, he worked as a general dentist in Mississippi for 4 years. Dr. Walley and his wife then moved to St. Louis, MO for him to specialize in orthodontics at St. Louis University. After receiving a master's degree in orthodontics, he returned to Mississippi and opened his orthodontic practice in Jackson, MS in 1980. He built an office in Madison, MS in 1997, and he and the staff have traveled between the two offices since then. In addition to his private practice, he served as a clinical professor of orthodontics for over 34 years at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry.
An esteemed member of the dental community, Dr. Walley is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and an active member in many leading dental and orthodontic organizations, including the American and Southern Association of Orthodontists.
Why an Orthodontist in Madison?
Orthodontist vs. Dentist
An orthodontist is a dentist, but a dentist is not an Orthodontist. All orthodontists are dentists first, but though not every dentist has the qualifications to be an orthodontist. Our doctors continued their formal education for 2 or 3 additional years before receiving the necessary license and certification. As orthodontists, they've spent years studying nothing but how and why to move teeth. This includes what to do, how to plan, and how to execute the appropriate treatment plan.
Why does it matter if you see your Madison Orthodontist?
Specialists receive additional training to give them the skills needed to deal with more complex orthodontic problems. Dentists receive basic orthodontic training which allows them to perform root canals, extract wisdom teeth, and treat young children who do not need to see an orthodontist yet.
Seeing a specialist like your Madison orthodontist may change your experience in braces by:
- Providing additional treatment options.
- Giving you more efficient treatment and visits, because it is the office's primary area of care.
- Knowing that you'll receive the best possible outcome on your treatment plan, especially if you have severe bite problems that need to be addressed.
- Personal experience treating multiple cases that share your unique concerns
- Being seen more quickly, as a family dentist will be focused on longer patient cases or emergencies throughout the day.
- You may think it's easier to have your orthodontic work completed by your dentist. Convenience shouldn't be a concern, because you will only be stopping by your Madison orthodontist's offices every six to eight weeks.
And don't let price be a problem either! Moffett & Walley Orthodontics is proud to provide affordable treatment in the Madison area.
